"Das Meininger Theater" is a repertory theatre in Meiningen, a small city (25'000 inhabitants) in the rural landscape of Thüringen/Germany. The theatre has 4 ensembles (theatre, dance, opera, puppets), an orchestra and all the ateliers for the set and costumes. The theatre-building was built in the beginning of the last century. It has a well restored hall with 750 seats, a studio with 100 seats, a club and a lot of empty buildings and apartments in the city. Tourism - in combination with culture - is economically the most important sector for this city. The audience is mixed, coming from the whole region, travelling sometimes around 100 km to see a performance. That's why we try to create a mixed programming of classical operas and plays and new young theatre and club events. The first JUNGE HUNDE FESTIVAL in Meiningen will be in Mai 2004. We will produce about 6 performances in our theatre and invite around 6 productions from the networking partners.
