Viacom considers In-Game Advertising

Well we all saw it coming, the hideous day we'd see a Coke ad in Star Wars Galaxies. Media behemoth Viacom, is looking into the possibility fairly seriously, now that inroads have been made into track based advertising. Whether this goes the direction of google-like smart ads (where an ad for streetwear would be appropriate in Anarchy Online's Rubi-Ka, but not in EQ's Norrath) or lacks contextual distinction altogether, we don't know.
With 2.something million subscribers, Lineage would take the proverbial cake as offering the largest exposure pool. It'll be interesting to see how the pricing structure works in MMORPG's generally:

"Dear Logitech Inc, A 320x100pixel non-animated billboard outside the Gates of Antonica's Freeport will cost you EU300.00 every EQ month. We hope you find this reasonable, Viacom"

We'll see.. More here.
