The Washington Post has an article giving very rare coverage of games as an indispensible training utility from a (USA) Military perspective, with accounts from both the position of a solider and a retired Admiral. Those interviewed make explicit references to particular games, directly likening war scenarios to those in games:

"The insurgents were firing from the other side of the bridge. . . . We called in a helicopter for an airstrike. . . . I couldn't believe I was seeing this. It was like 'Halo.' It didn't even seem real, but it was real."
