EdgeBomber, by Susigames, is a simple idea put to brilliant use.
Light absorbing marks are placed on a wall using objects such as strips of black tape. Cameras feeding the image through to edge or contour detection software can then be trained to 'see' these marks and use them as the basis for the collision and orientation of game objects. Here are snaps of a whole collection of 'levels' people have made for the game, so you can get the idea.
Nice work, if only we could see it in action!
Worth noting is that there's no reason why anyone with a kit like PureData (w/PiDiP) shouldn't be able to explore such an interface model using their own 2D engine, or an engine put together from the likes of PyGame.. The possibilities are ripe to say the least.
