archive: The Game of War
Posted on Wednesday, February 15 @ 01:43:31 CET by julian

Notes
The Washington Post has an article giving very rare coverage of games as an indispensible training utility from a (USA) Military perspective, with accounts from both the position of a solider and a retired Admiral. Those interviewed make explicit references to particular games, directly likening war scenarios to those in games:

"The insurgents were firing from the other side of the bridge. . . . We called in a helicopter for an airstrike. . . . I couldn't believe I was seeing this. It was like 'Halo.' It didn't even seem real, but it was real."

Precious stuff.. Here it is.

FYI here's a couple of old articles I wrote on or near the topic:

First Person(s): 'Under Seige' and The New Virtual War
Full Spectrum Propaganda
