Current Trends in the Art Game genre.

Seminal survey and definition of the art game genre, outlining the emerging relationship between videogames and art by exploring how the interactive paradigms and interface designs of arcade classics like Pong have been incorporated into retro-styled art games. This survey of the art game genre explores the limitations of the emerging work and the narrative and critical possibilities the game format offers artists. Discussion is focused in the following areas: defining a retro-styled art game, issues of quality and playability in the genre, art games that subvert traditional power relationships, and finally feminist art games.
