tech: More Hardware Hacking.
Posted on Tuesday, March 08 @ 22:12:48 CET by julian

Tools
.. and i mean that in the imperative sense. Sadly more and more people treat devices they own like a black box of tricks, private and arcane; as though it's somehow an entity in it's own right and should not be prodded in distressing ways. Whatever happened to the question: "I wonder what else this does?"

Until we are obliged to ask first (think I Robot), thou shalt have no fear and Raise Thy Screwing Driver to learn from what you own. Sick as it may sound, I've actually enjoyed watching reactions of people to first sight of their treasured machines internals - albeit usually while being repaired; at times it's as though I was presenting them their own kidney...

However taking a machine apart can be done safely with a few pointers and some common sense. Worth saying also, the more people that do it, the more common information about the way a given device works is in circulation. The vast amount of do-this-and-it-won't-break information available online for hardware hacking leaves us no excuse (errm other than voiding the warranty). To whet your apetite I leave you with The Nintendo Surgeon's Bible..oh and while yer at it, checkout how to run custom code on your DS.
