0.PREPARATION

download the latest patch from <http://planethalflife.com>. to update, ensure the computer is online and double-click on the patch.

before beginning note the path the game Half-life is installed in.
it is probably in 'C:\SIERRA\Half-Life' though it may be a different path on your system.

if it is different, write the path down on a piece of paper and keep it handy.

below i will be reffering to the "C:\SIERRA\Half-Life" directory.
if this directory is in a different place for you, use that location instead.

ensure that no other works on the exhibition machine are reliant on Half-Life, as we will be modifying the game's data.

1. COPY DATA TO THE CORRECT LOCATIONS

copy the contents of the folder labeled "PUT THIS ON YOUR DESKTOP" to your desktop.
right click on the file and goto 'Properties'.

move to the 'Shortcut' tab and note the
path given, "C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\hl.exe -dev -console".

check that 'hl.exe' is in this location,

if not change references to path ['Target' and 'Start in'] in the shortcut property fields.

copy the contents of the folder labeled "PUT THIS IN YOUR MAPS DIRECTORY" to your 'C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\valve\maps\' directory.

copy the contents of "PUT THESE IN YOUR VALVE FOLDER" to 'C:\SIERRA\Half-Life\valve\'.

ok, you've finished here, onto the next step.

2. EXECUTE GAME FROM CONSOLE

i have setup the shortcut that is on your desktop to trigger a console in the game.
use this shortcut to start the game, *do not start half-life from the windows menu*.

first you will see a menu. select the entry 'Console'.

in the console type the following line: 'map qthothIII'
this will load the QTHOTH map. at this stage you will be in the game.
use the '~' key to bring down the console when in the game.

3. ADD CONSOLE WIREFRAME MODE

with the console down, type in the line 'gl_wireframe 2'
and use the '~' key again to exit the console.

you've finshed!

just use the standard W<S<A<D keys and the mouse to move around. make sure the sound is up reasonably loud!
