What is, and What is Possible comprises four of Etchells’ projects, i.e. Live Forever (2011), Stopped Clock (2010), Revolution (2010) and Empty Stages (a collaboration with Hugo Glendinning, 2003−ongoing). All of these projects are permeated by extraordinary relativity, which amounts to a dialogue between the material and the non-material. A part of Etchells’ exhibition will also be a small but real empty stage filled by Tim and his Exodos’ guests…

By means of his neon and LED inscriptions, Etchells explores contradictions of language. On the one hand, his presentation of the story, image and idea is swift, clear and varied, while on the other hand it shows an incredible tendency to provoke confusion, ambiguity and suspense. The author puzzles us with the intentions and meanings of his inscriptions, more appropriate to a private conversation than a public address.

“One of the elements of my exhibition is an actual empty stage. We did the press conference on it with six I think and it was an amusing slightly ridiculous spectacle to see us crammed there. It`s onto this stage I want to invite... my idea is that through the festival there would be a series of talks and panels or discussions. The topic for these presentations (and their form) is open… but I guess I am thinking about this `space of potential` that the stages present, and that the revolution sign points to... and thinking about that space of emptiness and beforeness, and how we can approach them in different ways... in terms of philosophy, in terms of politics, in terms of performance...”

Applying structured, guided improvisation techniques, we will move towards translating the social symbols of exotica into patterns of movement and gesture, in order to - as an outcome of the workshop - generate tangible material on the subject.

A collection of experiments on the process of designing digital muscle memory for the body. Inspired by Luigi Galvani’s discovery (1780) of animal electricity in the human body, these experiments appropriate the techniques of electrical nerve stimulation to choreograph artificial muscle contraction and explore the neurological relations of dance. The workshop will present a series of live demonstration and the participants will have a chance to interact and explore various possibilities of moving with sound, electricity and brainwave.

Performance Sofa is a context-specific event. Each time the artists develop its contents in relation to the political situation and the broader event within which it is performed. It uses political, social and artistic issues to develop bittersweet comments. Each of the single-word, politically incorrect dialogues ends in a loud laughter. According to Judith Butler, the intentional laughter functions as a subversive act in view of inadequate discourses and as a sign of relief.
Exodos on the Sofa will be a short re-enactment of the performance in function of commenting on the events of the festival. It will take place two times: as a comment after the first half of the festival and as the final event, final comment on the festival. Free of charge.

Our workshop takes place in the theatre/rehearsal space and in its surroundings. Normally, the walls ensure that the outside world is kept at bay. A black box helps the audience to concentrate and the theatre maker to be specific. This position makes it easier to re-evaluate the outside world, but also isolates us from that world. In this workshop, Schwalbe wants to connect the “inside” with the “outside” – opening up the theatre so it can breathe. Through assignments we ask you to make attempts that we share in the group. We call them attempts, not acts, because the outcome of an attempt is the result of trying. In the theatre we make, we search for ways to repeat
trying, instead of the act it could result in. But we`ll get into that once you`re there.

Tang Fu Kuen, curator of the Asian Dance Platform, art critic, producer of festivals, dramaturge and theorist, collaborator and connoisseur of outstanding Asian artists who are (still) hardly known in Slovenia and Europe. These cultures with millennia of tradition and refined artistic expression are introducing themselves to the Western man only in the time of globalisation when these nations are turning into global actors in several social spheres, including art. Acquaintance with and expertise in Asian developments remains inadequate, cooperation limited.
Tang Fu Kuen will present current tendencies in the development of contemporary dance in Asia and artistic cooperation between Europe and Asia, and he will also speak about the theory of contemporary dance, which is all too frequently Eurocentric and cannot encompass the diversity and intricacy of Asian performing traditions, philosophies and modalities.
The lecture and the discussion will be held in the framework of Discussion Evenings organised by Bunker. In English language. Free of charge.

In his research, Eko is dedicated to the reinvestigation of the influence of Javanese dances on contemporary dance, to the collaboration of tradition with modern pop culture and film, to cross-cultural influences. He is deeply devoted to exploration, commitment and creativity, to dance vocabularies of new languages, to scholar and artistic transformations. With his cross-cultural instincts sourcing from his ethnic origin in Kalimantan/Borneo where he was born, and his native Magelang folk dance, and in combination with a new translation of the classical/court Javanese dance, he sets out to enter the entirely new situation and to learn, grow from the traditional values while being open to engage directly with contemporary realities.
At the workshop he will introduce traditional Javanese dances and their relation to the Western dance tendencies.

After a few preliminary swings at the 2013 Exodos Festival and the Scarecrow project by Marko A. Kovačič and Brane Ždralo along the Path of Remembrance and Comradeship, the Lighting Guerrilla will turn on its lights at the already traditional locations in the city centre, as well as in both parts of Metelkova.
Shimmering refers to rather weak lighting sources, which nevertheless give a special character to the space...
