A little Suncokret seed started to find its way up in 1992. This little seedling succeeded to spread its roots in the unstable grounds of a new country. Fed and nurtured by the enthusiasm and energy of domestic and international people it now has a firm grip on the still not really stable grounds. The roots spread through the field of grassroots relief and connect its offspring in the regions, the staff and volunteers, refugees and displaced people and many supporters throughout the world.
Suncokret is no longer one of many seedlings. It is now The Suncokret and takes a respected position within the spectrum of NGO's. This has not been achieved without problems. Suncokret had a sometimes difficult youth where an overdoses of unguided enthusiasm occasionally led to mistakes and misunderstanding. Over the last years, however, the organisation (as a whole) has matured a lot and operates more professional. The newspaper you are reading now is just one of the many parts which make up the organisation. It is not a goal in itself, but should be used by everybody within or related to the organisation. Inform and be informed. By sharing experiences (good and bad), idea's (good and bad) and feelings (good and bad) we can continue the good work and improve ourselves where and when necessary.
Any organisation can be improved and operate more 'professional'. Often this 'professional' is mistaken for very serious.. In the case of Suncokret it is vital not to make this mistake. Looking back at the life so far of this Suncokret seedling, it shows clearly that the enthusiasm and energy of all involved people s the backbone of the whole organisation. So professional OK, but we also have to enjoy what we are doing. Let's have some fun too. I hope that the newspaper can contribute to the organisation, both to the professional and to the fun. But at the same time I realise that t can only do so with the help of the people in the organisation. Without the support of you, Suncokret's, it will be just an empty page. So pick up a pen and write down some professional fun or be a funny professional.
