SOSTENUTO: projects and activities
AIM To form new kind of relationships of Bunker with our partners, neighbours, guests etc. through different cultural and social events and provide us with sufficient know-how and experi-ence for the dissemination of the local exchange systems, models and instruments. In all the ex-perimentally-oriented activities culture is involved as a factor of change and improvement, although emphasis is on different aspects of exchange.
Bunker is to incorporate different, innovative methods of organisation, cooperation and ex-change into the working process. Non-monetary exchange was the leading principle of organising the below-mentioned activites and special emphasis was put on the exchange in the local area (involvement of local bussiness, voluntary work done by local volunteers, participation of residents at different stages of the work process).
A project partner in charge of capitalisation (University of Valencia) was also present at various activities in order to better capitalize the new practices of Bunker.

MY STREET
My Street, ongoing project from the 21st to the 29th of August 2009, was a circle of activities, organized for local dwellers, local cultural institutions and subjects from other areas of action. The project encompassed various activities, such as breathing new life into the streets, establishing a cultural neighbourhood, and performing concrete experiments of economic and organizational innovations.
The artistic installations in the parking areas on Slomškova street in quarter Tabor by prostoRož architects. An attempt of making an area of exchange in the public space. Taking into account their artistic value, they were also thematic free-to-use spaces for the local population, that became areas of connecting and interaction between local residents and the festival audience. Several cultural and social organisations were attracted to Slomškova street or in its immediate distance to participate at the installations (voluntary services, chess society, bio farmers, electricity company, bike repair…)
The Street Market opened a door into a different exchange system, making us understand that all the things we own we can share with others on the basis of exchange with no money involved. The participants spread their experiences and knowledge free of charge while forming new bonds in local social networks. The first street exchange proved to be succesful above expectations, as there were more than 200 participants involved in exchanges.
Line No.10: THE BOOK
Project installed special bookstalls at 23 bus stops of the Ljubljana Public Transport System which offered bus passengers and passers-by the possibility to borrow all kinds of books from 22 June until the end of September. Line No. 10: THE BOOK was an open library where you were able to borrow books and return them to one of the stops after reading.
With the project Line no. 10: THE BOOK the association Bunker took part in the Ljubljana – World Book Capital 2010 programme. Bunker designed the project and brought it to life together with their partner, Europlakat. Many other partners were invited to join the project, including: the institute Divja misel, the publishing house Študentska založba, the Ljubljana Metropolitan Library and the group Rompom. The project was co-financed by the Municipality of Ljubljana, the international network Sostenuto and the European Regional Development Fund and is supported by the company GEM. The project wouldn’t be possible without an extensive help of donators of the books, being individuals, bookstores, libraries…
GARDEN BY THE WAY
Expressed lack of the feeling of the common good among residents guided us to create one of this year’s main activities, the gardening project Vrt mimo grede – Garden by the Way, placed in the local quarter Tabor.
Our plan was to enrich existing green areas and to create the variety of beds on window shelves, balconies, roofs and courtyards as artistic installations and interventions. Artistic groups of landscape architects, architects, students of Famul Stuart (School of Applied Arts) and sculptors will make plan for each of the places.
Our project stimulates a sense of community and responsibility towards the environment. Gardens still are and must remain places of gathering and collaboration. We want to emphasize the social component of life in the city but we are at the same time also including the private sector (sustainable farms) into the process. Community gardening is one of the best examples of mutual work and cooperation and perhaps one of the possible collective solutions of city self-supply in the future.
