Smaal Tokk: concert (SI)

Smaal Tokk hails from Wajdušna, one of the few Slovene towns that (colloquially) starts with the letter W. A portent of the quirky singularity of this enigmatic musician, flashing ironically the image of a gangsta rapper, spitting with a delivery reminiscent of spoken word laid over beats somewhat alien to hip-hop. A pleasant change, nonchalant licks devoid of pretentious gangsta rap posturing or the brutal expressiveness and critical furor of rap. Smaal Tokk excels in the domain of the homely – wife Radmila, the torrent of bills, the everlasting conflict between home team and those other guys, the art of producing offspring … He eludes definition, standing neither for parody nor self-seriousness, uncannily endearing; walking the razor-thin line between pop entertainment and subtle social criticism. Perhaps that’s the space where his message best resonates? Or perhaps there’s no »message«, only the straightforward account of a man whose chief advisor is his wife, whose anger most easily flares at those who are grumpy just because.

Druga godba loves Mali: BAMBA WASSOULOU GROOVE

Sogodbe #8 announces 32nd International Druga godba festival with a concert by  BAMBA WASSOULOU GROOVE!

This Easter weekend comes wrapped in vivid colours of Malian dance music – colours that refuse to be dulled by terror attacks or the razor wire of the state. Druga godba’s weapon of choice is music.

BIG BAND RTV Slovenia and BART VAN LIER in Stara elektrarna

This will be the debut performance of the Big Band RTV Slovenia in The Old Power Station. The orchestra is performing continuously for 60 years and is one of the oldest ensembles of the kind in the world. This time, the guest of the concert will be the superb Dutch trombonist Bart van Lier, who will also serve as the conductor for the orchestra. (more…)

32nd international festival Druga godba 2016: MAGNETIC ENSEMBLE

Magnetic Ensemble, brilliant fanatics led by Antonin Leymarie, create the atmosphere of an ideal discotheque. The beatboxing, usually pre-recorded, is performed live! The result: minimalistic instrumental techno music that shakes the dance floor in a surreal way.

Kitula & Via Ofenziva

Presentation of Kitula, the most recent poetry collection written by Esad Babačić, and a concert by the legendary new-wave group Via Ofenziva.
