Beton Ltd.: EVERYTHING WE’VE LOST WHILE WE’VE GONE ON LIVING
Photo: Borut Peterlin
Bold glamour and first-class entertainment; majestic buildings and a time where everything is possible; is all of this nothing but dreams that belong to the past?
“In the project Everything We’ve Lost While We’ve Gone On Living, the now already recognizable creative attitude of the Beton Ltd. collective, which is reflected in the continuously responsive and forthcoming commentary on the time and the world in which we live at the moment, materializes by putting the image of the actual present side by side with the past. Maja Delak: WHAT IF
Photo: Nada Žgank
What if … We lived differently? What if – we didn’t? What If is a performance about not living differently. It is a performance about how time measures out the rhythm of our lives; how instability and hyper productivity dictate the rhythm of work and how resistance often frames the rhythm of feeling. What If is a solo of a dancer and a solo about a dancer; it is a dance solo about what the body is capable of doing and what not (any more). (more…)
Irena Tomažin: THE TASTE OF SILENCE ALWAYS RESONATES
Photo: Nada Žgank
Irena Tomažin uses the medium of voice and body as her tool(s) to tackle the themes of tradition, heritage and the status of voice(s) and images, which are carried on by voice as a medium of oral tradition, from one generation to the next. In a way, we belong more to the past and to the tradition that – at first glance – seems to have faded away already; it also seems that we don’t belong to the present as much, the present that is supposed to be “the here and now.” (more…)

Branko Potočan & Fourklor: POCKETS FULL OF STARS Physical theatre
A performance about common people with tender hearts that contain sedimentary deposits of their lives. Many of these people lead an ordinary life. They seem content but appearances can be deceiving. Therefore, their innermost secrets start coming out. These are short stories related offhandedly like snapshots of life. The red thread of the show is rope. Its physical presence is figuratively reassuring: the rope ties, intertwines and unties. As a metaphor, as an imaginary reality. Life’s a circus, and circus a reflection of life. (more…)

Summer School/Intensive Program “Sensory Dimensions in Ethnographic Fieldwork”
Sensorial Studies and Challenges in Methodologies
What most scholars within the humanities seem nowadays to agree on is that smell, hearing, touch, taste, and vision are historical, i.e., they are not universal but products of place and time (cf. Smith 2007; Howes 2011; Low 2013; Howes & Classen 2014): “The number and order of the senses are fixed by custom and tradition, not by nature” (Howes 2011: 435). One of the premises of the anthropology of the senses is that sensory perceptions are cultural as well as physical (Feld 2013(1982), Classen 1993, Smith 2007). (more…)
