Based on motifs from Elisabeth Bam by Daniil Kharms
Elizabeth Bam speaks, responds and objects. The gap in the relationship between the subjective and
the objective manifests itself through the deprivation of a social voice. This step triggers the invasion
of the rest of the drama characters into the name of the protagonist, in a unique manner. On the
one hand lurks the demand for Elizabeth to finally open the door of the room, while on the other, the
invasion simultaneously takes place by the use of speech or emotions: »Ivan Ivanovič: Jelizaveta
Ščurkovna, I would rather go home. My wife is waiting for me there. She has a lot of children,
Jelizaveta Ščurkovna. Pardon any inconvenience. Don’t forget me. I’m just the type of person whom
everyone brushes off. And why? Have I stolen something? Not at all! Jelizaveta Eduárdovna, I am
an honest man. At home I have a wife. My wife has a lot of children. The children are well-behaved.
Each one holds a matchbox between their teeth. Therefore, please forgive me. Jelizaveta Mihájlovna,
I’m going home.«
