13th international festival of improvisational theatre – NAKED STAGE
Naked Stage is a small and yet propulsive festival. Because of persistently following the goals – exploration and development of artistic improvisation, showcasing international happening in the area of improvisational theatre, connecting local and international artists, professionalization of improvisational production – it is a powerful player on the field of co-creating European and Northern American impro scene.
The theme of this year’s festival is Crossing over. Crossing over in the sense of meeting other worlds, crossing over to different practices of work and life. And more factually crossing over at three levels:
Crossing over to other artistic approaches and fields. Improvisational performances, which get inspiration from other artistic areas or popcultural genres. Mixed profile workshops – a choreographer leading a workshop for theatre improvisers, improvisational artist sharing her artistic approach with performers from other areas, a musician inviting actors into his world. Public festival discussion on treasures of theatre improvisation and its contribution to other artistic fields and wider social context.
Crossing over between local production and international guests. New at the festival this year is strong focus on collectives active in Slovenia who will spice up their productions this times by collaborating with renowned international artists. Impro scene in Slovenia is financially, spacewise and critically malnourished but encouragingly alive and surprisingly versatile despite that. It is important to provide spaces for creation, development and collaboration.
And the core of improvisational theatre – crossing over between audience and performers, crossing over between spectators.
Glancing over to the other side is nice, but deep, committed crossing over to ideas, work and life of the other is even nicer!
