BIG BAND RTV Slovenia and BART VAN LIER in Stara elektrarna

This will be the debut performance of the Big Band RTV Slovenia in The Old Power Station. The orchestra is performing continuously for 60 years and is one of the oldest ensembles of the kind in the world. This time, the guest of the concert will be the superb Dutch trombonist Bart van Lier, who will also serve as the conductor for the orchestra.

Van Lier studied at the Hilversum Conservatory of Music, began his music career by recording programs for radio and television, and went on to perform in many ensembles, including the Netherlands Jazz Orchestra, Varadansorkest, Slide Hampton’s 4trombone Group and Skymasters. Over three decades, he has performed with Peter Herbolzheimer Big Band and toured with the German WDR Big Band as a soloist. In 1992, he became a permanent first trombonist and soloist of the famous Metropole Orchestra, which was nominated for a Grammy Award sixteen times during his participation, winning the award twice. Bart also leads his two ensembles – Bart’s Bones and Trio Bart van Lier – and a quintet with the trombonist Ilja Reijngoud. He is also a teacher, and a few of the trombone models by manufacturer Kühnl & Hoyer bear his name.
