In 2014, Slovenian artists Nina Jan and Urša Sekirnik, opened a fully functional performance webshop (www.a-la-cart.com) in which they invite you to become a real art consumer. You can buy a performance through a webshop, you can customize it to your personal needs, you can even order a custom made performance chapter … to be executed live!
What an absurd idea, you might think. But is it really so? Or do Jan and Sekirnik actually force us to look again at the conditions of contemporary performance production and ask us if we really believe that art, while being sold, is anything else than a consumer good? And that rather than ignoring this, they are looking for ways for their art practice to fight its own way to a bigger creative autonomy.
