Zvokotok is a cycle of contemporary composed music, the purpose of which is the integration of established institutional spaces of artistic activities and the spaces of dynamic activites of non-governmental organizations. Zvokotok is trying to establish an unweighted space for dialogue and overcome the artificial distinction between fields and venues of artistic activities.

Programme:

  • Bojana Šaljić Podešva: Abstinenca 3 (premiere)

The basic mean of expression in the work of composer Bojana Šaljić Podešva (1978) is electroacoustic music, regarding fixed-recorded 2- or more channel compositions, as well as real-time treatment of instrumental or vocal sound and music installation. Another important domain of her work represents music in relation to contemporary visual and performing.

  • Arturo Fuentes: Getmove (premiere)

“A feature of this work is the quickness. I am interested in creating a shifting texture containing several sound dimensions: we hear the noise of the keys that are mixed with the air and the real sound. I am also interested in the accordion dark color projection in the lower register; for me, it is like a line of sonic color that takes off upward. As in other works, regularity and irregularity, density and lightness, are at the center of this piece. Getmove was composed in 2011; I made several corrections in subsequent years and a final review in 2014.” Arturo Fuentes

The Mexican composer Arturo Fuentes (1975) arrived in Europe in 1997; his musical path led him from Milan, Paris and Vienna to his current home in Innsbruck. He has studied with Franco Donatoni in Milan and Horacio Vaggione in Paris. Arturo Fuentes composes instrumental music and electronic music, and conceives new musical theater projects that combine dance, video and electronics. His music is characterized as a meticulously organized kaleidoscopic chaos that explores the frontiers of dynamics, color, texture and virtuosity. This music unveils a constantly evolving sculptural design; you perceive a sonic space occupied by constant agitation – it’s research into an aerial tonality. His next projects in 2014-2015 include new pieces for the Ensemble Intercontemporain, Quatuor Diotima and the United Instruments ensemble of Lucilin, Luxemburg.

  • Eduard Demetz: 4 Tracks for Accordion and Samples (premiere)

“The 4 Tracks are dedicated whose quest for the instrumental perfection, refined feeling for the sound, as well as his openness to experimentations have inspired me for composing these four tracks. Trackes is a piece characterized by fragmentation, living out of the player’s desire to “grab the case”. Music is created in real time trough electronic manipulation of the fragments of the accordion part.” Eduard Demetz

Eduard Demetz studied piano and orchestra-conducting at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Austria). Demetz has written compositions for chamber orchestras, symphonic orchestras, choirs, piano, piano trios and for miscellaneous brass instrumentation. He has also worked on several movie, theatre and tv productions such as Bavaria-Film Munich. In 1998 he received the Austrian state grant for composers, in 2001 the Walther von der Vogelweide sponsorship award and in 2010 the Artistic Music Award of the city of Innsbruck. Famous soloists such as Christina Whittlesey, Thomas Demenga, Patrick Demenga, Thomas Larcher and the Minguet Quartet have performed his works. Orchestras and ensembles that have performed his pieces, are for example, the Ensemble Modern, Opera Nuova, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Klangforum Vienna, Windkraft, the Symphony Orchestra of Tyrol, the Ensemble Contrapunkte Vienna, the Haydn-Orchestra from Bolzano and Trento, as well as the State Theatre of Tyrol. The latter commissioned him to compose a chamber opera that was premiered in 2002. The Amar Quartet performed his string quartet „Stanze“ as part of a concert series of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 2005 the Merlin-Ensemble performed his composition “Per vidula y tlavier” at the chamber room of the Sofia Philharmonic and at the Austrian Cultural Forum in Manhattan, New York. In 2005 the Merano Music Weeks dedicated their composition focus on Eduard Demetz. Among three other pieces his orchestra composition “ImKlang“ was premiered by the Bruckner Orchestra of Linz directed by Dennis Russel Davies. Eduard Demetz’s music has been aired by RAI, ZDF and ORF.
