Pre-premiere is an annual closing performance of the Educational School and High School of Ljubljana – the Arts Programme. The students from contemporary-dance and theatre study courses are thus given an opportunity to enter professional stages in an organized manner and pre-experience performing. Pre-premiere ’13: A Room of One’s Own tackles the position of a woman in contemporary society. The performance addresses identity politics and issues of gender equality by referring to the personal and the social, the engaged and the critical. It re-examines gender as a social construct and opens a reflective stance towards its captive nature on the one hand and possibilities for its expansion on the other. Can one define male and female as evident categories by their very nature, or can it be that these categories are the result of our own constructs and ideological re-transcriptions? What are gender representations like and what inhabits them?
