19th International festival EX PONTO
In the framework of the Ex Ponto Festival, Stara mestna elektrarna – Elektro Ljubljana will host the performance by Federico García Lorca entitled The House of Bernarda Alba or Women without Men, Nothing More, directed by the Macedonian director Sofija Ristevska.
Federico García Lorca: THE HOUSE OF BERNARDA ALBA or Women without Men, Nothing More
The House of Bernarda Alba is a play about uptight provincialism, narrow-mindedness and tyranny of the society in the Spanish countryside. It is a play about social norms and values that one must follow, even for the price of sacrificing one’s own personal values, aspirations and desires. The Mal dramski teatar from Bitola translates the provincial Spanish environment from the beginning of the former century into contemporary questions touching upon gender identity. The daughters of Bernarda Alba are neither women nor men, they are merely a culturological metaphor for the intrusive nature of family and social limitations as well as morality.
