SENIORS 1.2

Wither, loneliness, sickness, death. A feeling that the life is slipping through our fingers and the world is moving on without us. A feeling that all we have left is memory.

We live in a society that is dealing with ageing through institutionalizing and with stereotypes and isolation. Often, intergenerational cooperation is merely an empty word. Old age has to be presented only as something beautiful, and fear of passing away has to be buried deep within each individual.

Directors Tin Grabnar and Hana Vodeb are presenting their second premiere, called Seniors, as a part of long term Glej Residency Project and in co-production with Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television Ljubljana. They have put ageing in the centre of their artistic expression. For more than two years they have been exploring different spheres of ageing with seniors, who until that point mostly had no connection to theatre. They were building a community that is bravely facing stereotypes and isolation towards Seniors through research of memory and poetic interpretation of ageing.

On stage, memories are intertwining with oblivion, poetical with political, interpretation with experience, magic with reality. Stories and people long gone, become alive again, and fears turn into nothingness. Stage becomes the field of possibility. In times, when society forces us into utter individualisation, Seniors refuse the notion there is no space for them in this world and are facing it and themselves together.
