Kud Obrat, in cooperation with Zavod Bunker, invites you to a screening of the feature documentary Green Utopia followed by a discussion with the author, Urban Zork.

Green Utopia (2013), a documentary film produced by Urban Zorko and Marko Kumr – Murč, is about the first organic certified and integrated community urban garden in Maribor. For a year the authors documented the progress of the community garden project, which was created as part of the Urban Furrows, a programme strand of the European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012. We follow the stories of four individuals: Izi, a single retiree with a low income and passion for strawberries – will he manifest his dreams of sweet feasts and happy gatherings? –  Andjela, the bookstore lady, is searching for her Garden of Eden, which appeared to her once in a vision; Špela and Ana are single parents living on the fringe of society, dealing with unceasing financial and time constraints – is this the alternative life they are fighting for? Disagreement and reconciliation take turns in a ruthless natural cycle; and when worst come to the worst, expulsion occurs much like the expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Will the dream garden turn into a stereotypical Slovenian garden, where plots are fenced off, with piles of rubbish on display?
