In vino veritas critically contemplates the role of the blood donor and the expectation of gratitude that this role is (presumably) expected to evoke, as seen through the eyes of the recipients.

Is the blood donor the strong one, making a voluntary sacrifice for someone weaker, so that he or she survives? Will a recipient remember to make a toast to a blood donor, will they know how to be grateful, how to appreciate the donor’s sacrifice? Will they be able to internalize it? Or will this sacrifice fall into oblivion in the mind of the recipient, who will – having regained their strength again – merely go on to pursue their own goals? It is simply impossible to tell. One thing is sure though: those who expect recognition and credit for their gift, do not give at all. A gift never has any strings attached. That is the truth.
