The modern theatre production “Cyril and Methodius, Who Are You?” by NETA Network partners is based on the principles of ancient Greek tragedy – art is indebted to each and every person. It talks about the life of two Slovenes – brothers Cyril and Methodius Belogorski, who were born in Celje, but now live far apart. Cyril is a professor at Columbia University (USA), while Methodius works as the chief piping engineer at Gazprom (Russia). They were named in honour of Cyril and Methodius, the brothers and missionaries who put the Slavic civilisation on the stage of world history by the side of Hebrew, Latin and Greek. Their father Leo Belomorski is a political migrant who is requesting the UN to grant him the right to be buried in his native village, which was also home to the great Slavic revolutionaries … a forgotten village somewhere far in northern Greece.

This fiercely intense personal play about a family takes place between Siberia and New York, Ohrid and Sofia, demolished Ukrainian towns, Prague and Washington, Syria and Iraq, Afghanistan and Greece, and it finally ends somewhere on the endless Santa Monica beaches.

The performance is woven with interesting dialogues, unpredictable situations, spying, researching one’s own and the Slavic identity, and questions about Pan-Slavism. It will provide an invaluable insight into the history of the two reformers’ work. The play by Dr Jordan Plevneš is characterised by a distinctive blend of historical sources and the thrill of a fantastic mystery.
